Happy Tuesday, Reader! This is the point in January when New Year's resolutions usually falter. What seemed completely doable in the midst of the sparkling hope of the holiday season now feels unattainable between the demands of everyday life. We need small shifts in our daily practices and rituals to create lasting change. Set yourself up for success by mapping out the path you need to get where you want to go. I think of this goal-planning method like planning a route with GPS—one step at a time, adapting as the location changes. I call this “road mapping our reality,” and it’s why I like coaching so much. It’s the equivalent of having a co-pilot to help us navigate. Lay the foundation for your road map with two foundational steps. The first two steps I take with any new coaching client help orient the current location so the route can begin to take shape. We do that by:
These two tools—value identification and SWOT analysis—need to come BEFORE the resolutions or the goals. Not taking the time to go through these steps is why we usually fail to achieve what we said we would on January 1st. If you’re feeling the resolve for those resolutions slide, maybe take a step back and work through these two steps. And, if you need help doing that, reply to this email and let me know!

Happy Tuesday, Reader! This week, I am challenging you to sit with a question that I ask each of my clients: If your company’s goal is to scale (your sales, client base, etc.), why? I frequently find myself sitting across from founders who assume that scaling should be the goal of every company, but experience has taught me that this is not always the case. Way too often, the Why is the result of lazy thinking, relying on what all the other “cool kids” seem to be doing, or—at worst—ego...
