Happy Tuesday, Reader! This past spring, we spent some time talking about the $250K ceiling that keeps most women-owned businesses stuck. And, we shared some actionable strategies for breaking through it. Today, I want to explain why that barrier matters and how we are partnering with businesses like yours in 2026 to shatter it. The Numbers That Won't Let Me Go Here's the reality for women-owned businesses in the United States in 2025:
These numbers matter. And not just because they represent lost potential for individual founders. What I Learned Working for L'Occitane (And Why It Changed Everything) In the early 2000s, I was a college student working for L'Occitane, learning about their shea butter sourcing in Burkina Faso. That's when I became fascinated by what happens to communities when women have economic power. Although Burkina Faso is currently under military rule after a 2022 coup, the country briefly demonstrated impressive democratic potential for such an underdeveloped economy. This was driven in part by women's engagement in the shea butter trade and their push for the education of girls. That's when I learned what empowering women in business could actually do—not just for individual women, but for entire communities. Why Women-Led Businesses Matter to All of Us Here's what the research consistently shows:
When women succeed in business, entire communities benefit. This isn't just about individual success—it's about systemic change. That's why those statistics won't let me go. When only 6.2% of women-owned businesses break through the $250K ceiling, we're not just limiting individual founders. We're limiting the positive impact those businesses could have on their employees, their communities, and the broader economy. Introducing The $250K Club for Women Founders For nearly two decades, I've been working with small businesses to build sustainable, aligned strategies. We're known for our consulting work: the strategic planning sessions, the pulse checks, the deep dives into brand archetypes and operational systems. We're not stopping that work. But for 2026, we're expanding our mission for the next phase of Realign Consulting: We want to see 10% or more of women-owned businesses break the $250k barrier by 240. To support this effort, we're streamlining our core services in 2026 to create space for this initiative. We call it The $250K Club. Over the coming weeks, you'll learn more about what The $250K Club offers, who it's for, and how to get involved. But today, I wanted you to understand why this matters so much—and why now is the time to do something about it. This Work Only Succeeds If We Do It Together We're living in a moment of deep division in this country. We're pulling apart at the seams in ways that are both frightening and exhausting. I built Realign Consulting around a core belief: Values-driven, community-aligned businesses can be a path to something better. Our work for almost two decades has been centered around helping impact-minded founders build not just more sustainable businesses, but kinder communities and better ways of working together. As Elizabeth Lesser says, "When women tell the stories, the human story changes." And right now, the ability to have those stories be heard requires economic power. It requires breaking through that $250K ceiling. If you are or you know a woman-led company working towards the $250K goal—or just starting out and aiming for it—please share this email with them. The $250K Club is designed for founders who are ready to break through that ceiling. We can't do this work alone. We need a community of women business owners and the people who support them committed to changing what's possible. More to come next week, Renia C. |
Renia (pronounced R-EE-n-a) Carsillo hates business silos and marketing hacks. So, she spends her days working with mid-size and small companies to integrate their business strategy with their impact strategy, design sustainable marketing frameworks, and find a growth cadence that works for their team and their lives. Renia believes founders are uniquely positioned to create a kinder, more equitable world. She is passionate about bringing C-level strategic support to the small and mid-size companies shaping their communities every day. Renia says, "Sustainable marketing is built on a solid business strategy. A solid business strategy is built on values-driven habits. Values-driven habits are built on healed/healing leaders. We can’t do these things separately. They’re all interconnected. ”
Happy Tuesday, Reader! Last week, I told you about The $250K Club for women and why breaking the $250K ceiling matters both for individual founders and for entire communities. This week, let's talk about the biggest mindset shift that makes breaking through that ceiling possible. The Service Trap Most Women Founders Fall Into Data shows that women founders are much more likely to be consultants and work in service industries than to be builders. There are real reasons why this happens:...
Happy Tuesday, Reader! For all the "AI will change everything forever" rhetoric dominating the tech news cycle, we've noticed something interesting happening in the business models: a pivot toward making a quick buck. OpenAI and several other AI-oriented companies we're watching are starting to look a lot less like revolutionary disruptors and a lot more like…well, Meta and Alphabet (i.e., Google). What We're Watching About AI (And Why You Should Too) The evidence is piling up: OpenAI is...
Happy Tuesday, Reader! There are about 60 days until the year turns and we trade fall's completion energy for winter's necessary rest. If you've been following along this month, you know I'm not here to tell you to "finish strong" by powering through everything on your list. This year has asked too much of us for that approach to be sustainable. But I do believe we can finish well, and that starts with having the right tools. The Alignment Trinity™ as Your Framework for Finishing Without...
