How to Realign in the Chaos: Aligning Your Systems (#2 of 3) [Two on Tuesdays]

Happy Tuesday, Reader!

Uncertainty continues to be the only constant in today's business landscape. Last week, we explored how to align your people—your stakeholders—to navigate these unpredictable waters.

Remember, sustainable business growth—no matter the economic forecast—requires aligning three critical elements: people, systems, and habits. Last week’s people-alignment tools help set the stage for what we're discussing today: systems realignment.

Aligned people can more easily create cohesive systems for moving forward together.

Let's be honest—the assumptions we began the year with are likely irrelevant or totally forgotten by now. That's normal in times of heightened uncertainty, but it's critical to stop and reassess so we're moving forward from a place of grounded strength rather than reactive anxiety.

(Sometimes it takes an outside perspective to identify what needs to shift to make our systems more efficient. Book a call with me to determine if mid-year strategy sessions are right for you in this moment.)

Here are two powerful tools to help you realign your systems for the remainder of 2025:

Systems Alignment Tool #1: Cashflow Assessment

In very uncertain times, cash flow is more important than the overall sales number or growth. Before making any strategic decisions, reassess your current situation: How liquid are you?

Consider these critical questions:

  • Can we reassess payment terms with vendors or clients?
  • Should we change our debt paydown strategy?
  • What is our cash on hand?
  • Are there high-margin products/services we can double down on?

What shifts become apparent if you look at your systems from a cashflow-first perspective? If your industry is…

  • Home services, consider focusing less on new construction and more on service work
  • Consultant work, consider focusing less on high-skill production and more on coaching and training
  • Product/Retail, consider assessing the highest margin products and trimming low performers

This is the time to hold on to cash in smart ways, both for protection and possibility—because there will always be interesting opportunities in times like these for those who are not so overleveraged that they cannot engage with them.

Aligning for cash flow over sales is THE FIRST UNLOCK for most of our strategic planning and coaching clients to gain sustainability in their business model.

If this isn't something you're familiar with, let's talk about it now. It's absolutely critical at this moment.

Systems Alignment Tool #2: Summer Strategy Sessions

The second tool is more comprehensive: a full or half-day facilitated pause to realign your entire strategy.

During our Summer Strategy Sessions, we…

  • Bring your team together, ideally in person
  • Recap what's changed for your specific company since January
  • Lay out a framework for fast-moving decision making and reassessment for the second half of 2025

These sessions help establish…

  • Clarity on the non-negotiables (i.e., values-alignment, bottom-line growth, or strategy goals)
  • What's not going to happen (i.e., what it’s time to let go of, at least for now)
  • What new opportunities are available (because your business still has something to offer your community)

Turn Uncertainty Into Strategic Advantage

We do these strategy sessions every year, but they are most crucial in highly volatile and uncertain times.

Those of you who have been around a while know I began my career as a small business banker. I’ve since realized my strength in understanding how all 5 pillars of business work together to generate sustainable growth for small and mid-sized companies.

These sessions give you and your team structured space to reset priorities and develop concrete next steps.

Choose from comprehensive full-day immersions or focused half-day sessions custom-designed to address 2025's shifting landscape. Meet with us at your location or experience our collaborative space, Awesome Inc, in Lexington, KY.

Schedule a call with me below to discover how these summer strategy sessions can help you realign your systems for a more resilient business framework.

Until next time,

Renia C.

P.S. - We conduct these sessions year-round. If summer is a busy time for your company, contact us about our Fall 2-Day Strategy Retreats. We’re booking now!

Happy Tuesday, Reader! You know what most business advice sounds like right now? Push through. Scale faster. Automate everything. Growth at all costs. That's the traditional model. The one designed for shareholders, not for humans trying to build sustainable businesses while also living their actual lives. And in a year like this one? That model doesn't just fail us. It breaks us. The Business Strategy That Actually Sustains You Here's a truth I've learned after nearly two decades of working...

Happy Tuesday, Reader! There are about 60 days until the year turns and we trade fall's completion energy for winter's necessary rest. If you've been following along this month, you know I'm not here to tell you to "finish strong" by powering through everything on your list. This year has asked too much of us for that approach to be sustainable. But I do believe we can finish well, and that starts with having the right tools. The Alignment Trinity™ as Your Framework for Finishing Without...

Happy Tuesday, Reader! When times get hard and uncertain, our instinct is often to retreat. We stay online because it feels safer than showing up in person with all our messy humanity on display. We avoid the discomfort of real conversations about how we're actually doing. We keep our heads down and try to push through alone. But here's what I'm seeing after 15+ years of working with small businesses through multiple economic crises: The businesses weathering this moment best aren't the ones...
