If you've been on this list for a while, you probably know a bit of my story. Realign Consulting started as the terribly named C2B Professional and Life Development back in 2008, and we evolved into a company primarily selling marketing services because of my early success on Facebook and LinkedIn.

So what I'm about to say might surprise you.

Social Media Is Not Going to Build Your Business.

In a 2026 world, social media is some of the most expensive and least effective marketing a local business can do. Yes, that includes Instagram and TikTok.

Social media marketing is labor- and time-intensive. And if you don't already have an audience, the likelihood of getting one organically is almost zero.

Way to put a damper on the holiday cheer, huh?

The Safe Choice That Keeps You Stuck

Look, I know social media feels like the safest, least scary option. Approximately 87 zillion so-called coaches show up in your feed the moment you launch a business profile, promising to unlock your success without you ever having to go outside.

But the truth is, most of them don't actually make a real living. The few who do usually rely on a combination of paid advertising and deeply manipulative one-to-one sales tactics to get there. (Oh, and also a lot of free labor—see last week's email.)

Meanwhile, getting out into the real world (IRL) is…

  • The best way to build relationships,
  • The most affordable way to generate visibility, and
  • The most human-centered approach to growing your business.

I'm Not Teaching You What I Did. I'm Teaching You What Works.

In The $250K Club, I'm not going to teach you exactly what I did to get to $250K. The truth is that it took several years, and the world I did it in no longer exists.
